First Nations Objects

This collection, modest in size but full of treasures, is a testament to the relationships the Ursulines nurtured with the First Nations people beginning in 1639. The objects in the collection also show how these ties influenced the nuns’ artisanal production. The noteworthy items in the collection include this birch-bark basket decorated with flowers, leaves, birds and geometric designs, made in 1948, and this 17th-century wampum (shell bead) necklace.
